Sunflower Growing Contest Rules for 2006 Tallest
Sunflower Plant ·
Measurement from the base
of the stem (brown root collar) to the flower head. ·
Plant to be brought with
a cut stem, no roots. Largest
Sunflower Head ·
Circumference of the seed
base (around the seeds) excluding the flower petals. Heads to be brought in
cut from the plant. Complete head. ·
Partial heads will not
be accepted. Most
Flowers on one Plant ·
Most open and spent
blooms on one plant. Excluding closed buds. ·
Ornamental or seed
variety. ·
NO Mexican Sunflowers Sunflower Arrangements ·
Live arrangement must
include sunflower(s), no silk or plastic. ·
Ornamental or seed
variety: (1) Sunflowers only (2) Sunflowers plus other flowers ·
All arrangements must
be hand done by exhibitor Additional Growing Rules ·
Contestant may enter only
one plant/arrangement in each category ·
Contest is Sunday
August 27, 2006 at the Thorhild Arena. ·
Registration is from 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. Judging begins at
10:30 a.m. No late registrations will be accepted. ·
Contestants are not
allowed in the judging area. Decision of judges is final. Prizes as
awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in each
category. No substitutions. ·
Open to all ages. You do
not have to use seeds from the Village. ·
Open to anyone in
Alberta. Exhibitor must grow plants. ·
Viewing 11:30 a.m. -
1:00 p.m. Items must be left for
viewing. Viewing will take place after prizes are awarded. ·
All items to be removed
from the Arena after prize announcements ·
You register at the
Registration Table on the day of the contest. ·
Failure to follow the
rules may result in disqualification. ·
No entry fees Sunflower Quilts ·
May be hand or machine
quilted and at least 3’x5’ (can be larger) Sunflower Yard - (Village Only) ·
Yard with the most
creative Sunflower theme within the Village of Thorhild ·
Must contact the Village
Office by 4:30 pm on August 18, 2006 ·
Must be willing to have
property posted and listed as "Sunflower Yard Contestant" Rules for Sunflower Baking Contest 2006 ·
Baking must be made by
entrant ·
You must check in
at the Registration Table on the day on the contest ·
Please supply recipe and
2 cups of granola wrapped in plastic (must contain Sunflower seeds) ·
Baking will be judged on
taste, appearance, texture, etc. ·
Only one entry per person
per category ·
Registration is from 9:00 am – 10:30 am. Judging is at 10:30
am. No late registrations will be accepted ·
Contestants are not
